I AM JERMAINE

Creative Director | Producer | Multi-Instrumentalist

BIO

At eight years old, Jermaine began performing as a drummer with local gospel music groups in and around the New Orleans Metropolitan area. Four years later, he became the first hand-picked student of Professor Edward “Kidd” Jordan and The Jazz & Heritage School of Music, where he was introduced to music theory and jazz. At fourteen, he was allowed early admission into the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) where he continued his jazz studies with Clyde Kerr, Jr and began to play the bass guitar. By seventeen, in addition to continuing to perform and tour with Gospel music acts, he began performing alongside jazz greats like Wynton Marsalis, Joe Henderson, and other highly acclaimed artists! After graduating from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 1996, he continued his education, with Professor Ellis Marsalis, at the University of New Orleans. Now considered amongst the best multi-instrumentalists on the planet, Jermaine has recorded over two hundred songs, performed in twenty countries, and toured four continents.

Forced by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Jermaine relocated to Houston, Texas in 2005.  He quickly re-established himself as a top musician there.  He began working, as a bassist, at St. Johns Downtown in December 2005.  By 2007, he was promoted to Musical Director.  In 2016, adding AVL to his leadership, he was promoted to Creative Director. In 2019, he became a founding member of TheRoux, a trio of well-respected artists/super-producers.  They are rapidly becoming known as one of the premier production teams of the southern United States.  Jermaine’s solo debut EP is expected to release later this year, while continuing to record and mix other artist’s featured projects.  Especially now, many churches are turning to creative uses of cutting-edge technology to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and expand their reach.  Using the unique set of skills amassed through the years, he is able to help churches who seek to further develop/revitalize their music and AVL teams.
